TOP LIST: 5 Strongest Female Leads On TV

As we continue in the spirit of international women's day, I thought why not rope in our sisters from the small screen to join us in this amazing celebration. TV has a number of powerful female leads that portray compelling characters that we either love to death or just simply hate to love. From control freaks to fearless divas and straight up devious femme fatales, here are 5 of my strongest female leads on TV:

First up is Cookie played by the gorgeous Teraji P Henson on "Empire". She is a fierce, intelligent and passionate woman. Wife to music mogul, Luscious Lyon, this queen knows just how to control her "king" and keep her "curbs" in check. We admire her for her strength and passion. She is definitely a fine balance of street meets class! Cookie is all-round what most women dream they could be.

Olivia Pope by the beautiful Kerry Washington on "Scandal" is not called "The Fixer" for nothing. She has all the right solutions to all sorts of problems. She is independent, respected and absolutely envied by many. She doesn't take nonsense and her fearless persona is so admirable.

Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) on House of Cards is the definition of a queen! When they talk about a great woman being behind a successful man, they are totally talking about Claire and Frank. I always joke that if I were to get married, I'd be the "Claire Underwood" type of wife. She is influential and her emotionally detached personality lets her maneuver any situation with so much ease.

Thembeka Shezi on "Scandal: South Africa", played by the amazing Masasa Mbangeni, had a whole lot of African female viewers hate to love her. She is a woman that will stand firmly for what she believes in, she will go after whatever she wants and she will do what ever it takes to achieve her goals. We may not agree with her methods of doing things sometimes, but we totally adore her strength and passion.

Lastly is none other than miss Mary Jane by the pretty Gabrielle Union. I know a lot may not see her as so much of a power figure, but MJ is independent and totally fierce. She may not have her life intact sometimes and may seem quite vulnerable, but she is a woman that many girls and women out there can relate to; and she definitely works at embracing her flaws and getting better each time.
